Her fingernails suddenly raked at her skull. “Lord! I almost forgot. We have to go back to Ann’s. She has a diary!”
He swerved into an empty parking lot and swiveled to face her, blood pounding in his ears. “What are you talking about?”
“Ann keeps a diary. We have to find it.”
“You’re just telling me this now? You should have goddamn said something right away!”
“Don’t you dare curse at me like that, you seismic jackass!”
He had to get out. He flung the truck door open and strode onto the cracked asphalt. Her door slammed shut moments later, and within seconds she was wagging a finger in his face. “And don’t you walk away from me, either!”
“Then don’t be such a damn shrew.”
Color flooded over her cheekbones seconds before she punched him in the gut. Hard. An ancient fire lit up his nerve circuits and adrenaline had him widening his stance. His heart gunned.
His groin tightened.
And she was still shrill.
“I’m not a shrew! How am I supposed to act in a situation like this? You think I’m enjoying this? I hate it! But unfortunately I have a conscience which would haunt me for the rest of my life if I don’t follow this through until we have some answers. You came to me and wanted to rule out the church first. Then with everything that happened, I forgot about the diary until right now. That clear enough for you, you—”
Clear enough, honey.
He vised her head between his palms and kissed her. He hadn’t meant to, but the moment her mouth opened to his, he was lost. Not breaking contact with her mouth, he wrapped one arm around her, his hand splaying across her ass, locking her hips against him. Her hands were in his hair, her hips grinding, driving him crazy. They feasted on each other’s mouth, tongues dueling, daring, seeking. He felt her fingers between their bodies, slipping underneath the waistband of his jeans, pulling at the hem of his shirt. Her fingernail scraped his abs and he groaned. She leaned away from his mouth, her eyes dead sexy. Liquid brown. He was gonna—
A car horn blew, jerking him back to life. Back to the parking lot. He looked over to see a man in a black minivan at a stoplight giving them the thumbs up. He honked twice more, waved, and drove on.
Sloane burst into a fit of laughter that quickly dissolved into tears.
And that clinched it. He’d woken up this morning in some creepy-assed Twilight Zone.

Today, we welcome Misty Dietz to Musings and Ramblings. Let's all give her a big Geeky welcome!
I have some questions for you that are writer specific as well as some fun stuff so that we can really get to know the real you. *grin* Plus we will finish things off with round of Think Fast. Ready to begin?
Writing Specific
1. Tell us something about yourself that's not in your bio.
Boring: I was a business writer for more than 20 years.Not quite as boring: I was a ghostwriter a few times. I can’t say for whom or else I’d have to kills you. Just kidding. Mostly.2. What do you like to do when you are not writing?
Read, date my hubs (been a long freakin’ time since our last date, though, dammit), hang out with my kids and extended family, kayak, paddleboard, lay on an air mattress, shop.3. How did you choose the genres you write in?
I think it’s the story itself that usually chooses the writer. I like to read straight contemporaries, but my mind can’t stand not adding complexities via external plot conflicts. I also tend to play the “what if” game ad nauseum. Hence the suspense element. I’m also fascinated with the paranormal, and so that always wants to creep into my characters’ world as well.4. Is there any particular author or book that has influenced you or your writing?
I can’t say there’s one author because I’ve read across so many genres for so many years, but a few that stand out as auto-buys for me are: Joanne Bourne - her novels are filled with lines of poetry and characters who make me tremble. Gina Showalter – love her gritty, conversational style. Julie Garwood – her stories sweep me away so completely I never want them to end. JR Ward – omg, her heroes are to freakin’ die for!5. What has been the toughest criticism given to you as an author? What has been the best compliment?
Criticism - I don’t give enough backstory – that I plunge into the story too fast. Best compliment? From a reviewer for COME HELL OR HIGH DESIRE:

6. If you could have dinner with anyone, past or present, fictional or real, who would it be and why?
God. I have so many questions. :)7. You are going to be stranded on a deserted island and bring 3 luxury items. What would they be?
I’d bring my iPad (that is currently holding like five thousand books and several audio books), my cell phone, and a satellite that will magically give me 4G LTE. Yes, I am addicted to technology.8. Pick two celebrities to be your parents. Who are they and why?
I don’t follow celebrities much, but I’d probably say Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith because they seem grounded (relative to celebrities), fun, and family-centric. I hope the divorce rumors are false.9. What would we find in your refrigerator right now?
All kinds of fresh peppers, left-over chicken alfredo pizza, pina colada mixer, ground flax seed, lettuce, cottage cheese, fingernail polish (my mom swears it keeps longer that way)…10. If someone wrote a biography about you, what do you think the title should be?
Oh gosh, this one’s really hard! Um…how about: ”Can’t we all just be friends?” I’ve been a peace-keeper all my life. I think it’s wired into my DNA.

Misty’s love affair with words started in middle school when she penned dark stories set in exotic locales she knew nothing about. In college, her boy-angst spilled over into disturbing reams of poetry. After grad school, real life hit, and the writing went into hibernation until she found her own happily-ever-after with an ultra linear man who is the long-suffering counter-balance to her zig-zagging tendencies. ReplyDeleteHuh. nail polish in the fridge is a different one. Never heard that but have been told batteries should be kept there too.
ReplyDeleteNail polish in the fridge?? Now I'm curious if that does make it last longer, though I'm sure my boyfriend wouldn't be very happy with that lol
ReplyDeleteHi Anna, the nail polish in the fridge is probably just some urban legend, but you know how hard it is to break a habit you've been doing for like your whole life! Now batteries...hmmm...I don't know about that. Being in North Dakota we've learned (often the hard way) that really cold weather can drain your battery faster than usual. But then, it's entirely possible that car batteries are a whole different animal than regular cell batteries. I am *not* a mechanic. :)
