Sherlock's Home: The Adventure of the Contentious Crone by Pamela Rose

“What was that all about?” Echo asked, coming into the bookstore a few minutes later. “I thought our sheriff had decided that the Sherlocks were persona non grata times three?”

“Yeah…so did I. That’s what he said last night, anyway.” Finn gave her sister a calculating look. “It was almost as if he was issuing a challenge.”

“So, he’s saying one thing, but he means something else?” Echo looked as if she was considering this last bit of information.

“Uh-huh. Now how weird is that?”

“Hmmm. I think our sheriff is as smart as he looks.” Echo said, nodding to herself with satisfaction.

“What’re you saying?” Finn narrowed her eyes. “Come on…spit it out.”

“I’m saying that very good-looking man went home last night and reconsidered his options. He realized that with or without his approval, we were going to keep right on doing what we’re doing.”

“If you can’t lick them, join them?”

“Something like that.” Echo said, smiling.

“Very smart,” Finn said, using one finger to tap her sister on the nose. “I like brains in a man.”

After warning Finn and her twin sister Echo, just the night before, to stay out of the investigation into the death of Nells Bodkins, Sheriff Davey visits Finn and shares the most recent investigation details.  This leaves Finn confused, until she talks it out with Echo.
