Review: Dragons Don't Cry by D'Elen McClain

This is the first book in the Fire Chronicles series by D'Elen McClain.  I had not heard of the author when I saw the book on Netgalley, but thought it looked interesting as I am a sucker for a good dragon story.

The story begins from the point of view of Angelos, the daughter of Hera, grand daughter of Zeus as her mother curses the four remaining dragons that she did not slaughtered due to something happening involving another daughter and one of the dragons. They don't go into details, just the curse. To be honest, I was very confused by this set up and it didn't make sense until much later in the book, and I am guessing we will find out more later in the series.

The premise is that the four remaining dragons each are give a chance every 100 years, to claim a virginal bride. The four dragons are staggered with 25 year intervals between there claiming. Basically every 25 years, women between the ages of 17 and 21 are left untouched innocent under threat of entire family annihilation, for a dragon to claim a bride.  This year is Bastian, a red dragon and he claims Acasia.

Bastian is a bad tempered, ill mannered dragon with a pissy demeanor. Acasia, on the other had, had gotten all the claimants drunk the night before and ends up throwing up on Bastian's claw when she wakes in his "eating" tower.  He keeps waiting for her to cry and beg and plead, like all the others that have come before.  She keeps waiting to be killed horribly and gives him nonstop attitude and sass.  The made an interesting couple and watching them learn about each other and fall in love was fun. I gave this book 3 stars.
