SOME PASSIONS CAN'T BE DENIED...
Jessi Randal walked away from her last relationship with a baby and a broken heart. Now, years later, the last thing this single mom wants is to give Windfall Island—and all its nosy residents—anything more to gossip about. But the moment she lays eyes on the tall, sexy stranger with the slow Southern drawl, she knows she's in delicious trouble...
Holden Abbot is on the island to find the missing heir to the Stanhope family fortune. It's his job to charm as many secrets out of the town as possible. And if he can charm Jessi into his bed, even better. When all evidence points to her as the heir, a dangerous enemy sets his sights on Jessi and her son. Now Holden will have to risk everything to protect the family he's come to love.
This is the follow up book to Temptation Bay. I actually read the first book because I saw this book on Netgalley and it looked intriguing. It wasn't until I got it that I realized it was book 2. *desk plant* Oh well. So after reading the first book it was thrilling to be able to jump right into this one. Now of course, I have to wait for book 3 to find out exactly who is Eugenia Stanhope's descendants are.
We were introduced to Jessi Randal in the first book. Jessi is a single mom who works with Maggie at her Charter Service. Jessi manages the office, making sure that the bills are paid, the phones are answered and that the business continues to run while Maggie is in the air. Maggie know Jessi's worth and Jessi own's 10% of the company. Jessi had her son Benji when she was still in high school. Her boyfriend ran off, leaving Jessi with a child and no support. Of course, Benji's paternal grandmother blames her son's leaving on Jessi and takes every opportunity to cut at Jessi, even though she hasn't contributed anything towards her grandson except demands to see him regularly. So Jessi lives the life of a good girl hermit, making sure that every decision she makes is in the best interest of her son Benji.
Holden Abbot came along at the end of the first book, called in by Dex to do the town's genealogy on the sly and try and figure out which family slipped Eugenia in as one of their own. With the problems that happened to Maggie, they are trying to be as clandestine as possible and not point too many fingers. After all, it's not just Jessi in the hot seat, but her son Benji as well. Hold has this lazy southern charm that immediately sets all the women on the island to fluttering around him, but early on he locks his sights onto Jessi. Their dance is spirited and fun to watch.
This was a fantastic follow up. I would strongly suggest reading Temptation Bay first, simply because their is a overall story arc that is being slowly uncovered piece by piece. With the addition of a addition of a third female, and the former best friend of Maggie and Jessi, we are still no closer to figuring out who the descendants are, all we know is who they aren't. This book kept me interested and intrigued throughout, 4 stars.
