Loving him will be legendary...if she can survive it.

What happens when monsters turn out to be real? One summer night while camping in the woods, Morgan Carter finds out in a big way. A tall mysterious stranger, Greyson Crawford, risks his life to try and save her sister from the vicious wolf attacking their camp. When he’s bitten and disappears into the night, Morgan can only assume the worst.

Greyson shows up a year later, and he’s a different animal altogether. His eye color shifts constantly and the rumble in his throat sounds more animal than human. She hasn’t any idea where he’s been all this time, but a good guess as to what he’s become.

Grey is determined not to let the darkness of his new existence affect Morgan and the little girl in her care. He hasn’t been able to stop thinking about Morgan but knows he should stay away and let her live a normal life. That’s easier said than done, though. A new danger pulls him from the shadows to keep her safe, and he’s no wolf in sheep’s clothing.

Can she accept what lurks just below his surface? More importantly, can she survive him?
I got this for free on Amazon back in January. I was interested in it because the series looked interesting and I was able to get the second book from Netgalley. The beginning of the book, started much like a typical werewolf horror story. Man out camping, hears something in the woods, checks it out find a large wolf terrorizing a woman, and ends up getting bitten by the werewolf. Cue the spooky music.

Grey's Beast, as he comes to find out, is rare and very very scary. When Grey finds Morgan, the woman he saved in the woods, and starts to romance her, it is sweet, but spooky sweet, cause Beast is scary as hell yet remains gentle with Morgan's niece.

I was happy there wasn't a big cliffhanger ending, but plenty of threads left dangling for the next book to pick up with. This was an enjoyable read, and I gave it 3 stars.

He’ll risk it all to bring her home.

Morgan Carter witnessed her sister’s murder, has been turned into a werewolf and is now raising her young niece. Then her fiance, Greyson Crawford, proves he wants to be with her for the wrong reasons, and she knows her life couldn’t be any stranger. Devastated, she retreats to her cozy house in the city with her sister’s little girl, Lana. There, they’ll have normalcy, and maybe eventually, even happiness.

But Morgan’s the only living silver wolf. Her uniqueness—the ability to produce werewolf offspring—means, without Grey’s protection, she’s unknowingly put herself and Lana in deadly danger. Other werewolves want to claim her for their pack, and she’s the easiest, most tempting prey ever.

When they strike, Grey has to find her and rescue her before it’s too late. Not so simple a task; he has only the uncontrollable beast inside him, Wolf, and an unlikely pack of allies he’s forced to rely on. Can he get to her in time? And if he does, can he convince her he’s there for the right reasons, saving them both?
Ever want to grab two characters by the hair and bang their heads together? Yeah, me too.  And things had been going fairly well in the first book. Apparently Morgan and Grey have forgotten how that whole conversation thing works. She assumes, then he assumes and the next thing you know they're not speaking and each of them has to have their very own TSTL moment. I am going to try to not get too spoilery, but there is a scene that happens that I couldn't help but compare to another book I read where another female shifter gets taken and trapped in a cage. That other character didn't just lay down and take it. She fought and gave her jailer hell over and over again. She just wouldn't stop fighting. I couldn't help but feel that Morgan is a bit wimpy, waiting to get saved instead of saving herself.

I know, I know, this isn't Urban Fantasy, but Paranormal Romance. But I still prefer a female character who is going to keep pushing and fighting to save herself and not just wait for her man to show up. I wanted her to have more gumption that she showed.

Ultimately for me, I just wasn't as happy with this book as the first. I wanted to see that strong female character and she just wasn't there. And looking ahead at book 3, it sounds like they will still be dealing with many of the same issues from book 2. I don't know if I will be continuing the series. I gave this 2 stars.

Thanks to Netgalley and Lyrical Press for the opportunity to read and review the book.

  1. I think it's probably the story heading in a direction that just doesn't do it for me. I prefer snarky, strong willed female characters, and Morgan isn't it. I guess she just wasn't my cup of tea.
