Geek Girls Don't Date Dukes by Gina Lamm
The wooden trellis creaked and groaned under her weight. The ivy was thick, and it was tough to figure out where her slippers would fit. But she kept her gaze locked on the windows of the top floor. She could get to him—she could. She had to.
She reached sideways, aiming for a thin spot in the foliage. Her fingers slipped, and she tilted dangerously. Pulling at the tendrils of vine, she pulled herself back toward the house. Her heart thumped and her breath came in little gasps.
“Damn, that was close.”
She looked toward the ground and gulped. She’d never been afraid of heights, and she wasn’t really afraid now. It was more the falling she had issue with.
No. She wasn’t going to fall. She was going to haul her ass up this trellis, make love to Avery, and if she ever got home, she’d invest in a rock climbing class.
Hey, you never know when shit’s going to come in handy.
Drawing even with the top of the trellis, she breathed a relieved sigh. Okay. Here she was. Now, which window was Avery’s? The trellis stretched wide, covering the bottoms of three top-floor windows. She could look down, see where the area was…A quick glimpse downward was enough to make her nausea rise. Nope, not looking down there anymore. Too damn scary.
She’d have to do it the hard way.
Moving to the closest window, she peeped above the bottom edge.
Several moments passed before her eyes grew accustomed to the dimness inside. She blinked several times before the vision cleared. Henry, one of the footmen, lay sprawled atop the covers, completely nude. Ugh. She hadn’t needed to see that. Fortunately, his roommate Oliver was fully clothed in the small bed across the room. Typical. The men got beds to themselves.
Hand over hand, foot over foot, she Spider-Manned it to the next window. When she didn’t think about the terrifying ground below, this was actually kind of fun.
With a whispered plea for luck, she lifted her head over the bottom edge of the window.
It didn’t take as long for her eyes to adjust this time. When she saw him, her breath caught.
Avery lay on his back, arm cast over his eyes to block out the beam of moonlight that highlighted his chest and face. He was gorgeous, dressed in nothing but his breeches. She couldn’t help but wish he’d been the one who slept in the buff. She might have been satisfied just hanging out here like George of the Jungle on a vine with a view like that.
Who was she kidding? She wanted to watch out for his tree.

Review: Geek Girls Don't Date Dukes by Gina Lamm
This is the second book in the Geek Girls series by Gina Lamm. I really liked the first book and was excited to be able to get this book on Netgalley. We learned a little bit about Leah in the first book, The Geek Girl and the Scandalous Earl and now we really get to know all about her.
The book opened with Leah at a Renaissance Fair, in costume Leah and her Ren-Faire buddy, Ella are walking the Faire, people watching and sharing snarky comments with each other. *Loved It* As Ella heads off to a henna artist with no line, Leah makes her way to assist with the coronation. On her way there, she runs into her ex-boyfriend, Kevin. He has the nerve to ask her to stand in for a sick bridesmaid at his upcoming wedding. Not to worry, they plan on photoshopping face out of all the pictures. As Leah steams, Kevin reminds Leah that due to his family's stature he is expected to marry from a certain class and as an elementary school drama teacher, she just doesn't make the grade. When she ends up back at her PawPaw's antique shop crying on his shoulder, he makes her promise that she will find someone she can count on, someone who know what it means to work for a living, someone who will listen to her, but not let her run all over him. He is so serious about this that Leah becomes worried. All this is important because when Leah gets the opportunity to use the antique dresser to go back in time, just like Jaime (Scandalous Earl) and find her true love, Leah jumps at it.
What I really liked about this book, is that Leah ends up as a servant in the Duke of Granville's house. She is discovered by the Duke's valet, and convinces him that she is from the future and that she is here to meet and fall in love with the Duke. Avery is a bit of an outcast with the rest of the staff, and reluctantly agrees to help Leah. Following Leah as she discovers the life of a regency servant, was laugh out loud funny. This was a great look at the other side of life in regency England and I can't wait to see where the next book goes. Another 4 star read on Goodreads.

Avery Russell, valet and prize pugilist, reluctantly helps Leah gain a position in the Duke of Granville's household... as a maid.
Domestic servitude wasn't exactly what she had in mind, but she's determined to win her happily ever after. Even if the hero isn't exactly who she's expecting.

Review: The Geek Girl and the Scandalous Earl by Gina Lamm
This is the first book in the Geek Girls series and the first book I have read by Gina Lamm. I am not normally one for historical romances. It takes something special to have me traipsing back in time to the Victorian, or Edwardian, or hell, whenever Era. Early on, I knew that pages upon pages of description of what the women (and men) were wearing and how often they changed clothes for each and every different activity of their day, did absolutely nothing for me. That said, this book title and description grabbed my attention. Geek Girl! An Avid Gamer! Throw in time travel and a hunky guy? Okay, sign me up. :)
The book opens with Jamie Marten playing with her guild on her MMORG (Massive Multiplayer Online Roll-playing Game AND I didn't have to look up the acronym *GRIN*) We find out that she has recently broken up with her long time boyfriend Logan and is down in the dumps. Jamie is a music writer and hasn't written a note since the break up. Her best friend Leah, makes Jamie go help out Leah's grandfather at his antique store to get her out of the house and functioning again. (Leah threatens Jaime's Comic Con tickets to get her motivated.) Jamie is not looking forward to moving furniture, but figures maybe a part-time job will help get her back to a pre-Logan normal.
While working in the heat of a storage unit, Jamie finds a tall bureau, hidden in the back and covered with a sheet. While she is admiring its rich mahogany, she trails her fingers along its lines. Until she gets to the mirrored doors covering the upper portion - and her fingers sink into the glass. She pulls and pulls and ends up being pulled into the glass. And ends up in London England, 1816. Her first reaction upon finding out when she is? Vomiting on the Earl of Dunnington's boots. Loved it!
This was a fun read. For such a far out and improbable story, it felt true to life. From trying to describe angry birds and how to make pizza, to complaining about the type and amount of clothing, to worrying about the lack of a real toothbrush and nothing to occupy her time, I could relate to Jaime. Even when she was whining. There were twists and turns, some predictable, other unexpected. It was a good read. I liked this book well enough that I will be looking for the next book in the series, Leah's story. I gave this one 4 stars on Goodreads.
