During the rule of her murderous Dark Fae uncle, Thistle "Tricks" Periwinkle found sanctuary among the Wyr in New York. Her ethereal beauty and sparkling personality won the hearts of the public, but after her uncle's death, there are those who don't want to see her ascend to the throne.

Able to wield thunder and lightning, Wyr sentinel Tiago Black Eagle has ruled the skies for centuries. His massive build and thunderous power make him one of the Wyr's best weapons. And he's sent to protect Tricks when she's almost assassinated in Chicago. Soon, both Tiago and Tricks will fall prey to the stormy hunger that engulfs them - a passion that will shake the very foundation of all the worlds.
I should have written this review as soon as I finished listening to the book. But I didn't because I was too impatient to dive into the next book.  Now I just want to babble on about how excellent this series is becoming. Because it is.

In the first book, Dragon Bound, we are introduced to this world where Elder Races, such as shifters aka Wyr, Elves, Fae, Vampires, Witches, Goblins and all manner of species co-exist. Not always peacefully, but as an integral part of the world.  The Wyr are headed by Dragos, a massive dragon and he has 7 Sentinels, all winged creatures like himself, to assist him with his rule. Dragon Bound is Dragos' mating story and the start of an interesting world.

This story picks up threads from the last book dealing with the death of the Dark Fae ruler. The rightful heir is stepping forward to claim the throne that was stolen from her when her family was butchered. Thing is, that heir has been hiding for over 200 years as a member of Drago's staff. Specifically his PR Manager - Tricks. Now that Tricks has come forward to claim the throne, her life is in constant danger. But she can't allow Dragos to assist her, no looking like she is a puppet to the Wyr, or her life will be a constant battle for survival.

Tiago, Dragos' Warlord and a Thunderbird, knows Tricks. But Tiago was usually busy being a Warlord in the field - sometimes continents away - and hasn't spent very much time with the little spitfire. However, when he sees footage of her being stabbed while fighting off an assassination attempt, he realizes he has to protect her, no matter what. The passion strikes between the two of them as hot as lightening. Unfortunately, politics works to push them apart. It will take some amazing feats of finesse and diplomacy to be together.

The narration on this was wonderful. Ms. Eastlake does a tremendous job of making sure that we can differentiate between characters. She brings each one to life in a way that adds to the story. I am so glad that I finally took a chance on this series. I gave this book 4 stars.

  1. I've really been enjoying her narrations. She was the first narrator that hooked me for a whole book :) Might have to try her for these. I've been meaning to read them for a long while now.

    1. Once I started them I had a hard time pacing myself. I literally have flown through everything available on audiobook in the series so far. I can't believe I waited so long to read this series.
