Marcia Andrews is a freelance psychic consultant. Sick of living hand to mouth, she accepts a contract with Raleigh Police. A new gang called The Cardinals is terrorizing The Triangle, and Marcia gives the department an edge in tracking them. Help that she is, one cop isn’t so keen on her involvement, and makes sure she knows it.

Detective Nat McCoy would rather see Marcia in his bedroom than the bullpen. The gorgeous Scotsman isn’t the typical chauvinist pig, though. He’s keeping a secret that even the psychic doesn’t anticipate.

A close encounter with a Cardinal’s bullet knocks Marcia off her game when the police need her most. She loses hours to trances and ghosts haunt her sleep. She can hardly function, and everything she thought she knew about playboy McCoy suddenly seems questionable. McCoy thinks he knows the cure for what ails her—him. But can she trust him?

Excerpt:
“Aren’t you going to dance?” Nat asked, spinning me around to face him.

I stood there lamely and watched as he dipped low and gyrated to some bass-heavy song, making a come here gesture with his hands. I guess I didn’t move fast enough because three women pushed past me and formed a triangle around him, taking turns getting in front and vying for his attention. Nat was some sort of perverted professional at this and managed to give all three of the underdressed tarts who were rubbing their persons against him an equal amount of attention. If it weren’t for the fact that he was staring at me, I would have almost thought he was enjoying himself. Instead, he looked a bit pained.

When the song ended, one of the women tried to pull him off, ostensibly for a private dance, but Nat waved her away. She looked pissed, but once he showed her his badge hanging out of his jacket’s inside pocket, she backed off and went in search of someone else to dry hump.

“I know you’re not here on police business,” I said to the flushed-face cop once we’d found ourselves an unoccupied stretch of wall to lean against.

“Nope. I thought I’d come rescue you. Your check-in didn’t seem like you were all that enthused to be here.”

I squinted at him with suspicion.

“Or maybe I didn’t like the thought of anyone else grinding against you,” he added, leaning down to whisper in my ear.

“So far, the only people grinding against me tonight are my cousin Micah and Ashaya.”

“Hey, you had your chance to simulate sex with me on the dance floor. Is that regret I hear?”

I just looked off to the side. As a general rule, I don’t do P.D.A. That includes dry-humping.

“Are you ready to go? I can drive you back to Raleigh. Maybe I can buy you some coffee?”

“I can’t. I have to drive Micah and Ashaya back to Enfield. Neither of them are sober enough right now to even find the center of a toilet seat.”

“Judging by how red your eyes are, I’m not sure if you should be driving, either.”

“I’m fine, Nat. It’s the weed and cigars. The smoke always irritates my eyes.”

“Hmm.” Nat’s own eyes took on a far-off look, and he started chewing on that full bottom lip.

I gave him a playful nudge. “Hey.”

He snapped out of it. “Sorry. What’s your cousin look like? Is he the guy in the turquoise shirt swaying dangerously? I’ll go in and root them out. Want to go wait outside in your car?”

“Uh…sure.” I started to make a beeline for the front door, but I only managed to get three steps away when Nat grabbed my left arm and pulled me back to him.

“I’m off the clock,” he said, and before I could ask him what he meant, he pulled me close to his chest, put one hand at the back of my head, and pulled my face to him for one rough, toe-curling kiss. I felt like I was being absolutely possessed, marked. Then he let go as quickly as he’d grabbed me and walked away, disappearing into the throng.

I stood there breathless with my eyes wide, panting for a few moments, and only came back to the world when someone nearby sucked her teeth and said, “Bitch.”

Holy hell. I felt like he had forced his soul into me and yanked it back out before I was ready. What was that? Every time we pressed skin, my nerve endings began to misbehave. I knew I was horny, but something else had to be going on. I immediately began to worry if my psychicness was screwing with other things beyond my sleep, but there wasn’t a single person I could call and ask about it except Jeannine. I didn’t want Jeannine in my business.

Author Bio:

Holley Trent is a Carolina girl gone west. Raised in rural coastal North Carolina, she has Southern sensibilities, but her adventurous spirit drove her to Colorado for new experiences.

She writes contemporary and paranormal romances set in her home state. They’re always a bit cheeky, sometimes sensual, and occasionally erotic. She enjoys creating diverse casts, which almost always contain a sassy grandmother.

Her works are inspired by real life, and her psychic romance Love by Premonition actually spawned from a petrifying encounter one evening when she was trying to sleep. Like her protagonist Marcia, she might be a bit of a medium…and like Marcia, the idea terrifies her.

Holley lives in Colorado with her ad guy husband, two kids, and two cats. Her romances are available from Calliope Romance/Musa Publishing, Crimson Romance, Rebel Ink Press, and she has works under contract by Lyrical Press. She’s currently working on a few paranormal romances, including a spin-off from Love by Premonition.
