“What now?” he [Deacon] huffed.

Anthony continued past them, taking a seat next to Nina on the fountain. “Did Jake go too far with his version of quote-unquote flirting?” she asked quietly.

Anthony shook his balding gray head, folding his hands over his beer belly. “I’m not sure. I was in the grand ballroom with my crew and ran to do damage control when I heard the yelling. Blood is hell to get out of parquet flooring.”

“Surely it won’t go that far,” Nina murmured.

“You missed the part where she threatened him with grout cleaner.”

“Well, there’s a complex history there,” she started, but Anthony cut her off.

“They’ll either stab each other or sleep together before the first month is out. Given the grout cleaner, I’d be willing to put a twenty on stabbing.”

“That would be completely wrong and unethical and . . .” Nina said just as Cindy called Jake an “overgelled, classless troll” in a tone so sweet it sounded like a compliment. Nina lowered her voice to say, “I’ll put thirty on sleeping together.”

Anthony gave an exaggerated mock gasp. “And you seem like such a nice girl!”

“Whit, would you tell this woman that she has no right to move entire rooms around on my blueprints?” Jake demanded.

Cindy was all acidic smiles and saccharine sweetness. “Mr. Whitney, would you please explain to your architect that these storage areas are part of an organization plan that you approved?” she practically cooed. “You asked Anthony to knock out one of the walls between guest rooms to create storage and display space for your collectibles.”

“Collectibles?” Nina whispered.

“I’ve seen the sketches,” Anthony whispered back. “The guy’s a big fan of those weird sci-fi/fantasy movies. Flash Gordon. Krull. Tron. Ladyhawke. Did you know they made Krull action figures? Because I sure didn’t. I’ve never even heard of that movie.”

Nina shook her head. “I did not know that. But now that I know that there’s a tiny posable Liam Neeson out there, I sort of want one.” The look Anthony gave her was equal parts confusion and speculation. She just shrugged. “Don’t judge me.”

Deacon asked. “Jake, didn’t we have this conversation about the storage rooms last week?” “Yeah, but I didn’t think you were serious!” Jake exclaimed.

“Why not?” Deacon asked.

“Because when you told me about those plans, I said, ‘That’s fine, as long as you’re OK with two of the guest rooms collapsing on themselves, because you’re removing a load-bearing wall.’ Remember?” Deacon frowned. “No, I’m pretty sure I tuned you out after you said, ‘That’s fine.’ ”

“Gah!” Jake threw his arms skyward. At Nina’s snicker, he turned on her. “Quiet, you.”

Nina mimed zipping her lips and tossing the key to Anthony, who “caught” it.


Okay first let me start by saying, Now I too want a tiny posable Liam Neeson! I am right there with Nina on this.

I won the dead tree version of this book from another blogger and was thrilled, because I adore Molly Harper. Regardless, I had noticed that this book got some very mixed reviews, so I was a bit... conflicted about reading the book. The first couple of chapters were hard to get into, mainly because the POV kept switching between the 4 main characters in the book: Nina, Deacon, Jake and Cindy. There were ruminations, memories, and getting to know you's to help get us caught up on each of the characters. And with 4 of them, it did take a bit. But once the framework was in place, the story took off.

Molly Harper's signature dialogue was found throughout this book. I love the way her characters interact with one another. With 2 would be couples, 1 slightly kooky cousin, multiple ghostly encounters, and a bad guy, there is a lot going on in this book. The initial set up was critical to make the rest of it seem not only plausible, but probable. As this is a Romance, albeit one with paranormal aspects, there is a guaranteed HEA. Plus stand alone, so no cliffhanger ending. There were several instances that made me smile, a couple that had me giggling out loud and several deep, satisfied sighs. Overall, a most excellent use of my lunch time over the period of a week.  I gave it 3 stars.

Review: How to Run With a Naked Werewolf by Molly Harper

This is the third book in the Naked Werewolf series by Molly Harper. I was a huge fan of the first two books in this series and and even bigger fan of Molly Harper, so when I saw this was available on Netgalley, I just had to grab it.

This is the story of the doctor of our favorite Alaskan Werewolves, Anna Moder. Except that's not really her name and get a chance to find out more about Anna as she goes back on the run from a past that is quickly catching up with her. When events conspire to put her with Caleb, a bounty hunting werewolf, she plots how to escape while Caleb plans on how to keep her.

The two thirds of the book were about Anna and Caleb.  The last third we get to see characters from the first two books again and check in on how they are doing, while the story draws to a climax. Anna learns to stand up for herself and trust her friends will stand with her.  And with Anna at his side, Caleb finds a reason to return to his home pack.

I really enjoyed this book.  There was a nifty little surprise at the end that I totally thrilled at. I won't give it away, I will just say to make sure that you are paying attention to names. ;)  I gave this book 4 stars on Goodreads.

Why This book?

I am waiting on this book because I have become a huge fan of Molly Harper.  I read the first book in this series, How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf and book 2, The Art of Seducing a Naked Werewolf is sitting on my ereader, just waiting for an excuse for me to skip over some of the other books on my list.  I was lucky enough to get accepted for a Netgalley copy of this.  I am just waiting till closer to release date to read and post my review.

Why This book?

I am waiting on this book because ever since I read my first book by Molly Harper, And One Last Thing..., I have admired her writing style.  Then after reading the Jane Jameson series I just fell in love with Half Moon Hallows and all it's inhabitants.  Thank goodness Ms. Harper is continuing to give us more Half Moon Hallows so I can keep up on what Dick Cheney is up to. *grin*

Review: The Undead in My Bed Anthology

This was a great anthology, featuring novellas for 3 series that I currently follow.  The first was by Katie MacAlister called Shades of Gray.  This is book 10.5 of the Dark Ones series and tells the story of Noelle, the Beloved who lost her Dark One to another in an earlier book in the series and Grayson.  It was full of Katie MacAlister's famed snarky humor as Noelle tries very hard to convince Gray that she is his Beloved and isn't scared of the Demon Lord who has sworn to see Gray dead.  The secondary characters are great as usual and provide wonderful comedy to offset Noelle and Gray's romance.

The second novella is Undead Sublet by Molly Harper.  This is the third novella in her Half Moon Hollow spin off series that originated with the Jane Jameson series.  This novellas was great because we got to catch up on Jane, Gabriel, Zeb, Jolene, Andrea & Dick.  in this novella, Tess, a Chicago chef, becomes so exhausted, that she swears the food is talking to her.  She is put on "sabbatical" and decides to go visit her former mentor who had moved to Half Moon Hollow Kentucky.  When Tess rents a house from a woman going through a divorce, she never expects to find out that she already has a roommate living in the basement - the woman's soon to be ex-husband turned vampire, Sam.  The battle of wills as Tess and Sam each fight for the right to live in the house alone, by sabotaging the sleep and personal items of the other is too funny.  I really enjoy going back to Half Moon Hollow and can't wait for another story in this series.

The third novella is Out with a Fang by Jessica Sims.  It is number 1.50 in her Midnight Liaisons series.  Midnight Liaisons is a dating service for the paranormal community around Fort Worth Texas.  I didn't really see where this novella fit in with the other 2 books in the series other than the couple, a Vamp and a Were-Jaguar, meet through the dating service.  When we first meet Ruby, the were-jaguar, she is pining her lost love, a forbidden human that she had to break up with some 5 years before.  She has finally decided to start dating again and is using Midnight Liaisons to find a match.  Her first date is with a vampire who asks that she be blindfolded while they talk and get to know one another.  What happens is a little bit predictable, but the story kept my interest enough to get through.  

Overall, this was a really good book, especially since I am reading all 3 of the series these novellas are part of.  Since the stories were novellas, they were easy, fast reads.  I would recommend to anyone reading the Dark Ones, Half Moon Hollow or Midnight Liaisons series.
